buah (silat techs.)
Hey Sifu Jerry, its a Malay system. The term buah is malay for silat techs. Bersilat is the general name in Malaysia. It did have some similar techs. to sera, the footwork was different though. Sifu Dan
whip training
Advice, when whip training don't over do it, carpal tunnel is not fun. train smart!!!!! One funny story I got from Servideo and Young is Reeders didn't like to be taken to the ground in his later years , Servideo didn't undestand it then, but he does now. And i am joining the crowd. oh well. Sifu Dan
silat lean
Yes the body is forward on certain entries, the head is actually past the opp. sometimes. And the focus is differnent, not staring at your target but looking away and striking as if the opp. is not there. I have had wing chun and karate students who have had a hard time with this concept. Its danger...
serak
The system is straight forward in its attacks, crashing through the guard, but then using mutiple angles and levers to off balance . The inside techniques are very subtle. Using fingers, thumbs, rolling motion of the wrist, slapping your own body to create levers. What I found surprising was the tech...

open/closed inside /outside
Here's my take on the above subjects. Fighting toe to toe, orthodox vs. southpaw. I prefer this matchup,I can attack the outside of his lead jab or kick, and angle back into his center and have him fighting off his ankles. So my open side is attacking his closed, or my inside is attacking his outsid...

Greetings all, I just got off the phone with Scott Young. It was all a misunderstanding, e-mails are a great invention but it doesn't come accross like actually talking to someone. Scott,Servideo and I plan on meeting after christmas in Pa. The doors are open between us all.

I first met sifu Elliott in the early 80's,he was working for a sport magazine and interviewed me. As I began to tell him about the system he jumped in and said he was from the same lineage. Elliott called Tiny that night and told him about meeting me and Tiny said for him to call me and learn the f...

I agree with Eriks post. I would pass on any info I have, forms or tech. to any martial artist who came from the Reeders lineage. I have talked to Scott young and he seems like a great guy, my friend and student Randy Elliott who studied under Tiny Sealy met a brick wall when he asked about exchangi...

cipecut
Cipecut translates to "whipping" but as a flexible weapon such as a bull whip, rope scarf sarong etc. I teach the sarong a little but more on practical use's such as a business tie, rope, scarf. More common for todays use but just as effective. Sifu donzella

If you are referring to the kali footwork, then I don't use it as much for the fighting aspect. The rest of his blend works very well with the chuan-fa,even the jkd. Did I answer your question S. ? Sifu dan
Serak or Sera. Founded by Pak Sera. This is a touchy subject. GGM Reeders was from this lineage. The system now I believe is under Victor de Thouars. But is anyone really teaching the true Serak. Who is the Pendekar. Paul,Victor Maurice???? Paul and Victor have side systems. Paul (Bukti Negara) Vict...
slapping,whipping
When I teach the slaps & whips the first time to a student I use set combo's. starting with 1 whip, then 2, 3 & 4. each progressing into a pattern. some start high some low. using a stationary stance at first. ( 3 point,Lion) at first vertical whips then add horizontal . also using set point...
slapping
Michael , sorry about the long delay on this issue. Yes I am very familiar this the slapping techs. of our system. You are correct in all aspects, for distraction and rebounding. When moving into a three point stance (lion) we use the slap off your own hip to rebound into the opp. groin or using it ...

Tjikalong/ Tjimande. Both Javanese systems. They are so close in style and concept it is difficult to separate them. They both blend so well together is the reason they are considered as one art today. I should get some feedback on that comment from some pure Tjikalong or Tjimande players. One simpl...
