Anyone in Texas?

Specifically the Austin area. I have a friend/student that's moved there permanently and is looking for somewhere to start some training. He's a low level practitioner at best and is in his late 40's with what I would call poor health. But he's a good student and a good man. Any ideas? Best, Jerry

Hello again, Well it's June. I just wanted to remind everyone that we'll be having our seminar on the 23rd and we'd love to see some of you there. I spoke with Master Joe when I set this up so it wouldn't conflict with him coming out so no excuses there! Anyway, give me a call or email me and I'll p...

Thanks Erik. I was wondering why I was seeing so many people in my internet travels talking about kuntao this and kuntao that. I had never heard the term before I started training in the LSGF. I suspect that Kuntao is two things; first, it's a mindset. Kind of mafia-like. A kind of, if you want to s...

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the quick response. I'm sorry to see him go. He has a unique perspective on our system that is irreplacable. However, I believe, by him falling on his sword, so-to-speak, this forum might retain many of it's current members that were upset by his remarks. It was an honorable thin...

Where's Mike?

Hello,

I just noticed that everything and anything that had to do with Mike Barr has been erased.

Does anyone have any info on who prompted this? Was it Mike decision or did a moderator pull him?

Questions on Kuntao

Hi all, I just thought I'd try to start a discussion on the very difficult topic of Kuntao. First of all; how many of you were taught something labelled as Kuntao? Second; who taught it to you and who were their teachers? Thirdly; without getting too specific, how would you describe what Kuntao is? ...

I feel that this, like all other types of training is done best with variety.

The body is an intelligent thing and will adjust, or plateau, if you keep to the same routine.

Think of as many ways as possible to mix it up and you won't go wrong.

interesting link to Silat techniques for comment

Hi all, I found this link posted on another forum and thought I'd post it here for your comments. http://gayanglima.blogspot.com/ It looks familiar to me. Almost like a foreign language that you can get the gyst of but not completely understand. The poster thought it looked remarkably like Sera. Wha...

Hi Chris, From my limited experience with T'ai Chi I understand that Yang style is the easiest to start with if you're a beginner. The movements are easier to under stand. However, I hear that Chen style has superior applications. Talk with Sifu George. He may be able to hook you up with Master Galv...

Hi Drea,

You are lucky indeed to have studied under such talented people.

Are you in Arizona now?

How are you connected to the folks on this site?

It's a small world

Hi Fan, I just checked out the site and it looks great. Under the Arizona friends, he lists Masters Jinheng Li and Jerry Cook. I am under their lineage for my Gung Fu! It is passed from them (and a few others) to Master Michael J. Leoni and then to my Sifu, Tom Adams (in Massachusetts) then to me in...

When using whips, it's generally not a good idea to look at your target (this goes along well with the conversations we've been having on Peripheral Vision) because they have a nasty tendency to hit you in your own eye. OOOPS! Think of your shoulder as the "holster" for your whip and alway...

Hi Mike, I think this is why I like the Kettle Bells so much. Because they offer weighted resistance training similar to what you would find in combat. You get the value of strength training in the way the we need it for Gung Fu. There are also some great two man drills that work the same principle;...

Hello Munk, Question for you. Where in the form (Yang long form) does this movement appear? Is it towards the end or in what I would call the third and final section? If so, I believe it's called threading the shuttle or something like that. The form that I do (classis 108 Yang style long form) is c...

Welcome Munk

Your video is very nice. I actually went to your myspace and saw some of your other stuff there. Keep on doing exactly what you are doing. You are young and experimental. I think your foundation is wonderful and it's obvious that you've had good instruction and direction. Welcome to the group!!! Jerry

I had to laugh at that one, given our conversations on that very thing in the past.

Too funny.
