The four bags smaller bags can be about the size of boxing speed bags. The larger bag should be the size of a mid sized punching bag.

You condition your hands and finger tips by whipping the bags and performing your rolling hits on each bag.

whipping

Are you suggesting that you start out your training with bolts or rocks?

whipping

No I am not suggesting you start out your training on bags filled with Nuts/bolts etc. Smile

However once you have perfected the whip on a regular pad or bag then yes shortly there after you should move into conditioning. More advanced training uses Rat and Mouse Traps this is for speed.

After this you can move into exploding wood using the whip.

Whip strike training

Post by jkinnear »

Clorden, If you would be so kind, perhaps you could break down your understanding of the whip training for beginners. Not everyone seeing this post will know where to start.

Here are the basics of the whip.

relax your wrist and hand to warm up sling your hand back and forth so to use only your wrist joint to move your hand. Once this is completed...usually 60 seconds or so you can move into the whip.

Imagine your arm is a rubber band...extend it through your target when your arm is fully extended whip your hand (popping it outward)

this is a whip

Really... I just asked this question under another topic, but one thing that I learned to get the speed up on my hands was ripping hanging newspaper from the ceiling. Then doubling the paper up, trippling.
In movement, be as swift as the wind; In slow marches, be as majestic as the forest; In raiding and plundering, be as fierce as fire; In defence, be as firm as mountains; In camoflage, be as impenetrable as darkness; When striking, be as overwhelming as thunderbolts.

Hi..

I dont know if anyone is still talking about this post but was it wrong to start training without preparing your hand? I am only asking because I used to practice everyday in my Fan forms and one day I was told to go to the mouse trap to try. First try, my finger got caught, painful so I laughed. Second time I got it down. Then I had to practice striking at the trap 20 times without getting caught.

No damage at all. Only thing was the first time getting caught was scary for me.

Maybe previous training of different types of push ups had helped? Or using 'BOB' to practice with? Maybe I was trained for this and didnt realize?

Mouse Trap exercises

One of the brothers in my kung fu school, Danny; his dad used to train on connibear traps back in the day. That about scared the heck out of us, seeing that, and we practice on rat traps alot, lol.

I had heard that Sifu Lenny trained on old iron bear traps...that's something a lot of us out this way would have really cherished to see.
